Guildford · GU1

Web development for Guildford, including the technical end.

Guildford has a real concentration of software, games and research businesses, and they ask harder questions than most. That suits us — our work leans engineering rather than brochure.

Where we are

Further out, and honest about it.

Guildford is around twenty miles from our Tolworth office — a straight run down the A3, but still a journey rather than a drop-in. We will come out for a kick-off and for the milestones that warrant it, and we are not going to pretend we will appear on a Tuesday afternoon. You should be sceptical of anyone who does.

In practice it changes very little. Our Guildford projects are the most technical work we do, and technical work is reviewed on a staging environment and in a repository, not across a table. What matters more than distance is whether the person you speak to understands what you are asking for.

Locally

A different commercial mix to the rest of Surrey.

Guildford is not simply a larger Epsom. Surrey Research Park, the University and the town's long-standing games development cluster mean a meaningful share of local businesses are technical ones — software firms, studios, research-led companies and B2B suppliers selling to other businesses rather than to the public. Those briefs rarely stop at a website. They involve a product to document, a customer portal, data arriving from somewhere, or a system that needs an interface that an internal team never got round to building.

The other half is the town's professional and legal sector, which is sizeable, and the retail and hospitality along the High Street. That work is more conventional, though professional firms here tend to want something custom rather than a template, and are usually willing to pay for the difference.

One pattern worth naming: technical companies are often the worst served by their own websites, because the engineering attention goes into the product and the site is left to whoever had time. We are comfortable being told what the product does in detail, which is not the experience most of them have had with a design agency.

What we do

What Guildford clients ask us for most.

We do the same work wherever the client is — these are simply the parts that come up most often here.

Related work

Projects of a similar shape.

Much of our work is delivered white label or under agreement, so these describe the problem and the approach rather than naming the client.

Also nearby

Other areas we work in.

We take on work across Surrey and UK-wide. Around Guildford that regularly includes Woking, Godalming, Farnham, Cranleigh, Aldershot and Camberley.

Questions

What Guildford clients ask.

Twenty miles away. Does that matter?
For the kind of work we mostly do here, not much. Bespoke development is reviewed on staging and in a repository. We will come out for the kick-off and for the milestones where a room genuinely helps, and we would rather say that plainly than imply a presence we do not have.
We have our own developers. Can you work alongside them?
Yes, and that is a good share of our Guildford work. Sometimes it is extra capacity on a deadline, sometimes it is the piece nobody in-house wants to own — a CMS, a front end, an integration. We will work to your conventions and in your repository rather than imposing ours.
Can you handle an integration with a system nobody has heard of?
Often, but we will scope it before quoting it. If a system has a documented API it is usually straightforward. If it does not, the work is in establishing what is actually possible, and that is worth a short paid discovery rather than an optimistic fixed price that neither of us can stand behind.
What do you build with?
Mostly PHP and Laravel, with WordPress and WooCommerce where a CMS is the right answer, and we work in Drupal, Joomla and PrestaShop as well. We pick based on what the project needs and what you will be able to maintain, not on what we would prefer to write.

Tell us what the site has to do.

Not just what it should look like. We will tell you what it would take, what it would cost, and when something cheaper would get you most of the way — before you have committed to anything.
