Every item is built to the customer’s measurements, so price is calculated from the configuration rather than looked up from a product record — which is the part standard ecommerce cannot do. Scroll the diagram sideways to see all of it.

The challenge

A manufacturer of hand-crafted radiator cabinets and decorative panels, selling to customers across the UK.

Standard ecommerce assumes a product exists before it is ordered. Here it does not — each piece is made to the customer’s measurements in a chosen style and finish, and the combinations cannot sensibly be listed as product variants.

What we built

  • A bespoke configuration module built on top of the existing ecommerce platform.
  • Style, type, colour and finish captured as structured choices.
  • Customer measurements captured as part of the order.
  • The configured specification carried through with the order.
