Why it matters

Infrastructure managed alongside the application.

Hosting tends to become visible only when something has already gone wrong. Most of the work below is about the period before that.

Right-sized setup

Match infrastructure to traffic, functionality, data and operational importance.

Joined-up support

Application and hosting issues are investigated together, without supplier finger-pointing.

Prepared for failure

Backups, monitoring and recovery routes are part of the service, not an afterthought.

CDN & caching

Cloudflare, edge caching and asset optimisation for fast global delivery.

Security hardening

Firewall rules, header configuration, vulnerability scanning and proactive patching.

Deployment pipeline

Staging environments, version control and zero-downtime deployments.

When you need this

When hosting becomes somebody's problem.

Hosting is easy to ignore while it works, and most of the time it does work. The problems tend to arrive together: an expired certificate, an unsupported platform version, and no clear owner for either.

The useful question is not whose server it is on, but who is responsible when it stops responding.

Signs it is time

  • Nobody owns it — The site was set up years ago and the control panel login is with a supplier you no longer work with.
  • The host and the developer disagree — Each says the problem is at the other end, and the issue stays open.
  • There is no tested restore — Backups are running, but nobody has ever tried restoring one to see whether it works.
  • Traffic has outgrown the plan — Shared hosting that was comfortable at launch is now the reason pages are slow.

Questions

Planning the engagement.

What is included in hosting and security?
UK-based managed servers with daily off-site backups on 30-day retention, auto-renewing SSL, a CDN and firewall, OS and platform patching, uptime and performance monitoring, and a staging environment. You get a monthly report covering uptime, what was updated and anything we fixed.
Can you take over hosting we did not set up?
Yes. We start with a review of the current environment, document what we find, then plan the move. Migrations are done to a staging environment and tested before any DNS changes, so the switch itself is short and reversible.
What happens if the site goes down?
Monitoring alerts us rather than waiting for you to notice. For retained clients our published SLA target is a response within two business hours for anything that takes a site offline or makes it unusable, and time-sensitive issues can be raised by phone.
Are backups actually tested?
Yes. A backup nobody has restored is an assumption, not a safeguard. Restores are tested rather than taken on trust, and the backups are held off-site so a server-level failure does not take them with it.
Do we have to host with you to work with you?
No. We work on sites hosted elsewhere all the time. Hosting with us mainly removes the gap where an application problem and an infrastructure problem get passed between two suppliers while the site stays broken.

Need managed hosting that works with your development team?

Tell us where the site is hosted now and what has gone wrong with it. A short review usually tells us whether moving is worth the disruption.
