Why it matters

A technical service shaped around useful outcomes.

Most requirements only look standard until someone tries to fit one into a template. What follows is about everything after that point.

Tailored architecture

A build shaped around your workflows rather than forced into a theme.

Performance focused

Lean front-end code, considered assets and a measurable quality process.

Built to evolve

Maintainable components and documentation that support future development.

Clean codebase

Readable, well-structured code that another developer can understand and extend.

Integration ready

Connect to CRMs, APIs, payment systems and third-party services from day one.

Content management

Editors get structured, flexible controls without needing a developer for every change.

When you need this

When a template stops being enough.

Plenty of businesses are well served by an off-the-shelf theme, and we will tell you when that is the honest answer. The conversation usually changes when the website stops being a brochure and starts being part of how the business runs.

At that point the cost of bending a template around the requirement starts to exceed the cost of building the requirement properly.

Signs it is time

  • You are working around your own site — Staff keep a spreadsheet beside it, or re-key the same information into a second system.
  • The brief has a difficult middle — The pages are straightforward; the logic underneath them is not.
  • Plugins are stacked on plugins — Each one solving a problem the last one introduced, and all of them needing updates.
  • It has to agree with another system — The site needs to stay in step with a CRM, an ERP or a payment provider, not just link to one.

Architecture is decided before the build starts, and everything is reviewed on staging before it goes near production — with a way back if it needs one. Scroll the diagram sideways to see all of it.

Questions

Planning the engagement.

What counts as custom development?
Anything where the behaviour is built around your requirement rather than configured from a theme. In practice that means custom content modelling, business rules, integrations, and interfaces designed around a specific job rather than a general one.
Can you work with the site we already have?
Usually, yes. A good deal of our work starts with a codebase somebody else wrote. We begin with a short technical review so we understand what is there and can flag anything that will affect cost before committing to a plan.
Do we own the code at the end?
Yes. You own the code, the repository and the hosting accounts. We do not build on a proprietary platform you can only maintain through us, and we will hand over to another developer without obstruction if you ever want to.
How do you handle changes once the build has started?
Small adjustments are absorbed as we go. Anything that changes the shape of the work gets priced separately before it starts, so the budget never moves without you agreeing to it first.
How is a build estimated?
We identify the outcomes, the unknowns and the integrations, then price what is clear and flag what is not. Where uncertainty is high we will suggest a short discovery phase rather than guess at a number that neither of us can rely on.
Ready to build?

Could custom web development solve the problem?

Tell us what the site has to do, not just how many pages it needs. If a template would genuinely serve you better, we will say so.
