Joomla

Joomla support, upgrades and migrations.

Most Joomla enquiries we get are from businesses whose site works fine but whose developer has moved on. Finding somebody who still supports it is the actual problem.

Still supported here Upgrades Migration if you want it
The situation

A smaller pool of developers, not a dead platform.

Joomla has fewer developers working on it than it did, and that shapes the enquiries. The site itself is often perfectly serviceable; what has gone is the person who knew it. Agencies then tend to quote for a rebuild, because a rebuild is what they would rather sell.

Sometimes a rebuild is right. But a working Joomla site that simply needs patching, a few extensions updated and somebody available when something breaks is not a reason to spend a five-figure sum. We are happy to be the people who keep it running.

Where we would raise migration is when the extensions you depend on are themselves abandoned, or when what you want to do next is genuinely harder on Joomla than it would be elsewhere.

What we do

The work that comes up most.

Keeping it patched

Core and extension updates applied in scheduled windows, tested on a copy first.

Version upgrades

Moving between major versions, where template and extension compatibility decides the effort more than the core upgrade does.

Extension problems

Fixing or replacing extensions that have been abandoned by their developers, which is the most common failure point.

Template work

Design changes and responsive fixes on an existing template, without rebuilding the site around a new one.

Taking it over

A review of what is there and documentation of how it works, so it is not a mystery the next time somebody leaves.

Migration, if it is right

Moving content to another platform with URLs preserved — but only when the case for it is real.

Straight answers

Worth saying plainly.

Working is a good reason to keep it

A site that does its job and can be kept secure does not need replacing because the platform is unfashionable.

Abandoned extensions are the real risk

An unmaintained extension handling user data is a genuine problem, and a better argument for change than the platform itself.

Migration is not free

Content, URLs and functionality all have to carry across. Worth doing deliberately rather than because somebody said Joomla is finished.

Questions

What people ask about Joomla.

Is Joomla still safe to use?
The core is actively maintained and gets security releases, so a patched Joomla site is not inherently unsafe. The risk sits in third-party extensions that are no longer maintained, which is what we would check first.
Should we migrate to WordPress?
Only with a reason beyond fashion. Good reasons: abandoned extensions you depend on, or a genuine need for something much easier elsewhere. Bad reason: being told Joomla is dead by somebody selling a rebuild. We will give you the honest version.
Can you take over a Joomla site you did not build?
Yes, and it is most of our Joomla work. It starts with a review rather than a quote, because what matters is what is actually installed.
Next step

Send us the address and the version.

We will tell you what state it is in, whether the extensions you rely on are still maintained, and whether keeping it is the sensible option — which it often is.
