Why your WordPress site is slow.
Slow sites usually have one dominant cause, not twenty small ones. Finding which it is takes an hour and saves you from spending money on the wrong fix.
Slow sites usually have one dominant cause, not twenty small ones. Finding which it is takes an hour and saves you from spending money on the wrong fix.
The common mistake is buying a solution before identifying the problem. People move hosts because a site is slow, when the site was slow because of a plugin doing something expensive on every page load. The site is then slow on better hosting, and the money is gone.
What matters is where the time actually goes. Is the server slow to produce the page at all, or does it produce it quickly and the browser then spends four seconds on images and scripts? Those are different problems with different fixes, and the fix for one does nothing for the other.
That distinction is measurable in minutes. Everything after it is informed rather than hopeful.
What we do
Working UK-wide — directly with businesses, and white label behind design and marketing agencies.
Discuss a projectNot the count itself — the ones running queries on every page load. Two bad plugins outweigh thirty well-behaved ones.
Full-resolution photographs scaled down in the browser. The commonest cause of a slow page that the server produced quickly, and the easiest to fix.
Rebuilding every page for every visitor when the result is identical. Caching properly is usually the single biggest improvement available.
Unindexed lookups, or a page running hundreds of queries. Shows up as the server being slow to respond at all.
Some produce enormous markup and load everything everywhere. Fixable, but it needs knowing which parts are safe to strip.
Real, but less often the cause than it is blamed for. It is worth ruling in rather than assuming.
And when it is, moving genuinely fixes it. We would rather establish that by measuring than by selling you hosting.
Images and caching often account for most of it and cost very little. That is a worse outcome for us commercially and it is still the right advice.
A site built on a heavy theme with a dozen overlapping plugins has a ceiling. We will say so plainly rather than taking money to nibble at it.
A lot of our work is delivered white label or under agreement, so these describe the problem and the approach rather than naming the client.

Migration · DevelopmentFive separate legacy CMS sites, five databases and five themes, consolidated into a single multilingual multisite CMS platform.
We will tell you where the time actually goes, what fixing each part is worth, and when the answer is something cheap you can do yourself.
